This map shows the global distribution of groundwater systems (WHYMAP, Richts 2011) and irrigated areas in 2005 (equipped areas in fraction of 5-arcmin pixels, from Siebert 2013). Zoomed-in inlays show France and Mekong, where we develop focused research actions involving Earth system scientists, social scientists, and stakeholders, respectively the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB) and the Mekong River Commission (MRC).
