Broadband dielectric characterization of geomaterials

In this seminar, the potential and limits of electric and electromagnetic method for geomaterials characterization will be presented. The first part of the seminar will be focused on the technical aspects of these measurements with a special focus on the high frequency range (above 1 MHz). The different approach to model the measured electrical properties will also be introduced. The second part of the seminar will consist of a series of example of different type of geomaterials dielectric characterization: rocks and cementitious materials. In the third part of the seminar, the potential of the method will be illustrated through a typical geotechnical problem: soil densification. Finally, in the last part, some results of ultra-broadband measurements (mHz to GHz range) of clays will be presented.
